Its the "DEFINITIVE EDITION" of an existing game, it's not a new game, it doesn't promise a new game. On a more serious note, the WHOLE POINT of the DE was to preserve the feel of the original. Age of Empires IV is going to deliver the “newer” and “better” experience that people are wanting.
Manyof the classic custom blood maps were exclusive to AoK, and these special maps were really fun to play. Think of them as something faintly similar to the original League of Legends before there was Warcraft 3. Now with all that being said, let me give you my opinion of AoE2 Definitive edition vs. the 2013 HD edition. I love it,

Thisis a bit out of date for the Definitive Edition of AoE II. For example, I notice monk unit conversions more frequently on Easiest, as well as the collection of relics (albeit very slowly/minimally). The AI cheated in the same way in the original Age of Empires too. Hardest mode gave the computer player extra resources. – user101016
